The Best of The 2010s… My DECADE In Review

SAY WHATTTTT? A freakin’ DECADE in review? When I first started planning my final posts for the year, I was going to end it with my typical “Year in Review”. But then I realized that we’re closing out on the 2010s, a decade has come and gone in the blink of an eye.

Thinking back to this time TEN years ago, I would have never imagined my life would be like it is now. The only thing I could have correctly guessed? That I would be starting the new decade as a 30 year old. HAHA

So today, we’re going wayyyy back down memory lane, to the year 2010. We’re looking at 10 years of growth, 10 years of change, 10 years of happiness and sadness, 10 years of accomplishments, 10 years of “failures” and most importantly, 10 years of love!

Speaking of love, before I get to recapping this past decade, today is a super special day for me and my hubby! NINE years ago today (how has it been that long?!) we went on our very first date. Little did we know way back then, it would be our very last first date ever. Kind of crazy to think about! We went out with our friends to ring in 2011. And even though he got us kicked out of the bar (long story!) we’ve been inseparable since that night.  So cheers to NINE years of laughs, adventures and love, Babe. I’m so happy I get to do life with you!

The first picture I ever took with my husband. LOL

Alright everyone, thank you all for joining me for 2019 and the last few years of this decade!  I’m so happy that you’re here, and that we’re going to be ringing in 2020 together. I hope that this next year brings you 12 months of success, 52 weeks of laughter, 365 days of good luck, 8760 hours of fun, 525600 minutes of joy, 31536000 seconds of love and 1 whole year of happiness!

I’ll talk to you next decade 😉

Xx.

In the 2010s I…

Finished 4 years of college…

I loved college! Not only did I learn a lot, but I made so many amazing memories!

and graduated!

BA in English and Elementary Education. #LakerForALifetime

Lived in 4 cities…

My first big girl apartment! I lived in a townhouse and was SO PROUD of how I decorated my space! Allendale, Michigan
My last year at Grand Valley, I moved into studio loft in downtown! It was so nice! I had a little kitchen and a super big bathroom that had a giant closet and laundry machines in it! Grand Rapids, Michigan
I moved back home for a year while I looked for a big girl job. Manistee, Michigan
Our first apartment together. Detroit-ish, Michigan.

and found a place to call “home”.

Our first home! Can you believe it used to look like this? Follow along on our home journey here, here, here and here!

Traveled to many new places…

Okeechobee, Florida
Cedar Point, Ohio
Fort Meyers Beach, Florida
Banff, Alberta (Our Honeymoon!)
Jasper, Alberta
Cincinnati, Ohio
The Badlands, South Dakota
Bellaire, Michigan
The Poconos, Pennsylvania (although this photo was technically taken in New Jersey!)
Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts
Nantucket, Massachusetts
Foxboro, Massachusetts

And revisited familiar ones that had stolen my heart.

Mackinac Island, Michigan
Grand Rapids, Michigan
Holland, Michigan
Chicago, Illinois

I started new traditions…

Like our yearly trips to Frankenmuth!

and continued old ones.

Like sending funny Christmas cards!

I’ve met new people…

Junior Year Spring Break!

but kept the same few closest to me.

My two best friends since Freshman year of college! This was us on my 22nd birthday 🙂

I said hard goodbyes to family members…

We lost my Great Grandma Jean in 2017 #f*uckcancer
Trev’s Papa early this year #f*uckcancer
And my sweet Mojo Bones in May #f*uckcancer

and added new ones.

We found our Jacksy Cat in 2014! This was our first selfie together!
My sweet niece Emmy made us an Aunt and Uncle!
My new cousin Lisa!
And my new cousin Allie!
My sweet little nephew Easton!

I went on my last first date…

Trevor and I’s first date, New Years Eve 2010!

and said yes to forever.

I learned new trades…

This decade I was a bar tender, nanny, substitute teacher and worked at Comerica Park!

and found my big girl job.

First day as a teacher! I was SO PROUD.

I tackled new challenges with Trev by my side…

Like remodeling our new home!

and faced changes both good and bad.

One of the best changes was getting a promotion at work. I stepped out of the classroom and into a role as Assistant Director! I was so scared and unsure to take such a huge leap in my career and I am so beyond blessed I’ve been given this opportunity. I love my new role!

I made countless trips to the Leelanau Peninsula…

Fishtown, 2010!

including the best trip of all.

Our Wedding. June 17th, 2016. Glen Arbor, Michigan

I watched a lot of sunsets…

and I took a lot of beach walks.

I went tons of dates…

including an international one!

We drove to Canada for Canadian A&W because it’s way better than American!

I danced my heart out…

Dancing in college was where I met my besties. Also, I didn’t feel like digging for actual photos of me dancing so here’s a cute Hell Week (the week before our shows when we would spend every night practicing for hours) snap of me just being typical Savannah.

and took my final bow.

I hung up my pointe shoes for good after 20 years of dancing.

I cheered on my favorite teams…

Go Blue!

and met TOM BRADY! (Kind of!)

You can read that story here!

I celebrated a lot of birthdays…

Snapple Fact: I don’t like cake. But I do like a Big Al’s sub!

and left my 20s behind me.

30, Flirty, and Thriving

I enjoyed a decades worth of seasons…

There’s nothing like NoMi in the Fall!

and holidays.

Can you say Christmas?!

And lastly, I took some big risks… and started this blog.

Wow. What a freakin’ decade. I can’t wait to see what the next one has in store!

Usually, I do a yearly recap as my NYE post, but tbh, I felt like 2019 wasn’t our year. While we had some really wonderful moments, we had some seriously sad ones too. And besides, I only get the chance to recap a whole decade every 10 years! But, because I’m a firm believer in documenting every season of my life as it is, I figured I’d at least share a few pictures that really were the best moments of 2019 for us!

We sure did make a lot of memories this year! And these pictures? They aren’t even half of the things I blogged about this year!
