How To Plan A Perfect Staycation

Hi Friends! Happy Tuesday. I’m sorry I missed yesterday’s post. I got out of work late and didn’t feel like what I had written was good enough to post. And since it’s a collab, I felt like I needed to give it a little more time and attention. So you’ll see yesterday’s post this THURSDAY. If you’re recently engaged, you’re not going to want to miss it!

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, I’ve got a question for you! How many of you have some serious FOMO rn while scrolling through all your friends posts from sandy beaches or under palm trees with tropical drinks? I can’t be the only one raising my hand up high.

So, this one is for all of us that are just dreaming of feeling the warmth of the sun on our faces, relaxing with a cold drink next to the pool, escaping the stresses of every day life. Just because we aren’t jetting off to Punta Cana doesn’t mean we can’t take a weekend to achieve the ultimate goal: to get away from everyday life.

Here are 6 Tips to Help You Plan a Perfect Staycation!

Figure out the When and the Where. Have you seen pictures of a stunning hotel downtown that you’ve always wanted to visit? Maybe you want to hop in your car and drive 30 minutes away. Pinpoint whatever kind of “different” you seem to be craving, and figure out where you can enjoy it.

Do Your Research! The trick to a really great staycation is planning for it like a you would when you go away. Once you’ve decided where you want to go, open up Trip Advisor and start looking. Wherever you’re headed, look to see where people say is the best plays to stay, eat and play. Then, open up Instagram and check the Geotags for those locations. Your feed will explode with ideas of fun things to do wherever you are.

Be a Tourist. I don’t care if you didn’t even leave your own city… do what the tourists do! I’ve lived in Detroit for FOUR years and haven’t even scratched the surface of all the touristy things in the area. Think about it… how many people live in Washington DC? And how many of those people have actually taken that Conspiracy Tour every always talks about? What do the tourists do where you are? Do it during your staycation. And take pictures and buy a souvenir.

Have a Really Good Meal. Think about the last vacation you went on, and think about the most perfect night you had there. I bet you’re thinking of a super yummy dinner you ate. Food is the heart of cities and one of the most exciting parts of travel. So treat yo self to a nice dinner while on your staycation!

Take Your Camera. Any good vacation has hundreds (or if you’re me) thousands of picture perfect memories. Take a moment to capture your staycation just like you would on a trip half way around the world. Need some tips? Check out my Capturing Your Travels series below!

Splurge… a little! I know the main goal of a Staycation is saving money but still being able to have some fun. However, remember how much money you’re actually saving. You didn’t have to buy train tickets, you might not have had to pay for a place to sleep, and chances are, you’d have gone out to eat or spent money on something at that weekend anyways. So make sure you splurge (a little) on at least ONE thing while you’re on your Staycation. It will help it to feel more like a treat!

Do you ever take staycations?! How do you make them feel extra special?

Alright my friends, I’m off to finish out today with a workout (boo) and some Easter candy (yay!)! Have a great rest of your Tuesday everyone! I’ll be back tomorrow.
