Happy Monday my loves! It’s cold and rainy here today and all I want to do is fill up my bath tub, throw in a bath bomb and escape to Nantucket with Elin Hilderbrand! I discovered her last summer, and haven’t been able to stop reading her books since! In fact, after I finish up my list of things to do… I think I’ll do just that!
This week on Savannah Said It, we’re all about soaking up those last few moments of summer… Can you believe Labor Day Weekend is already here?! This summer straight up flew by. And I honestly didn’t get to do half of the things I wanted to! So, I’m planning to live it up this Labor Day Weekend and do everything I didn’t get to yet.
Luckily for all us Michiganader’s, our backyard is the perfect summertime playground. In fact, it seems like the entire state is trying to squeeze out the last few drops of summer. From state fairs and festivals, to sunsets and one last swim in Lake Michigan, I’ve rounded up the best ways to make the most of you LDW in our great state!
Head to the Beach. I know, I know. I figured I might as well state the obvious! But with miles and miles of golden coastlines, how can I not?! You can read my dissertation on why lakes are so much better than oceans love letter to our Great Lakes here. But really, there is no place I’d rather be LDW than in a little beach town the last week of summer.
Take a Day Trip. A long weekend is the perfect time to take a day trip! Been wanting to visit Frankenmuth but haven’t had time? Feel like touring a light house or two? Maybe you want to find one of Michigan’s hidden gems, take a hike, explore the best part of Michigan or just eat a crazy good sandwich with a really beautiful view. Whatever it is, you should do it. It’s your last chance until next summer!
Head to the State Fair. Got kids and live in Metro Detroit? Take ’em to the State Fair! They will love it. And you know, anywhere you can get a Deep Fried Oreo, you’ll love too. 🙂 Learn more here.

Hit up a Tigers game. Why not close out your summer with the Boys of Summer? The Cleveland Indians are in town, for four games (a make-up for a rain out in July) and the Royals roll in on Labor Day for a three day homestand. Find tickets here! (And my I suggest Champions Club seats? Y’all should see the food they serve you!) And while you’re in Detroit for a game…

Find a festival. There are so many festivals happening over LDW in the Detroit area! If you can’t find your way out of the city and Up North, these festivals are the next best thing. You can find a bunch of them listed here.

Walk the Bridge. Easily, the most iconic thing to do LDW in Michigan is walking the Mackinac Bridge! The walk starts at 7 am. Find out more information here! (And just know, they will be completely closing the bridge for the walk this year, so if you’re trying to get across it, you’re going to need to plan accordingly and expect some major delays.)
Finish crossing off your Summer Bucket List. What would the last weekend of summer be if you didn’t finish crossing off your Summer Bucket List?! You can read mine here. I’ll be working to cross off everything I didn’t finish yet this weekend, so I can feel like my summer was a summer well spent!
What are your plans this LDW?!
Like I mentioned earlier, this week is all about celebrating the last weekend of Summer. So check back tomorrow to see what I’m packing to take on my Long Weekend Getaway!
Now, before I go… we got TWO things to talk about.
The first?! OMG TAYLOR SWIFTS NEW VIDEO IS EVERYTHING. That is all.
The second?! How about that Game of Thrones finale?!!! I seriously can’t even. Can you believe theres a chance we have to wait two years to see what happens next?! OMG. Soooo not okay.
Have a great rest of your Monday everyone!
Xx.
