How to dress for a Wedding

Happy First Day of Fall!!! It’s OFFICIALLY one of the best times of the year, and I am SO EXCITED. My Michigan Fall Bucket List is coming at ya on Monday, and I can’t wait to share it with you. Its filled with football, bonfires, and apple cider. You won’t want to miss it!

And now on for the fun stuff 🙂
Does anyone else constantly stress about what they are going to wear for a wedding? Like seriously. I find myself thinking about my outfit from the second the Save the Date arrives. And then, the invitation comes with a dress code on it and I have to start all over. I’m always SO worried that I won’t be dressed correctly, or that I’ll match the bridesmaids and look like I was trying to ruin the wedding on purpose. Ridiculous, I know. But welcome to my brain.
And now, summer isn’t the only season filled with weddings. Fall seems to have become just as busy. We still have two more weddings to go to before the weather turns snowy. So, with wedding season in full swing, I thought I’d share my rules for dressing for a wedding!

1. Remember… THIS IS NOT ABOUT YOU. This day is all about the bride to be, so don’t you dare try to upstage her! Do not, under any circumstances, where any shade of white or cream. That color is reserved for the bride and the bride alone. You also may want to save that sequined mini dress for NYE. You don’t want to take any chances at upstaging the bride. Don’t be a Paris…

2. If there is a dress code, be sure to follow it. If the dress code says black tie and you show up in a sundress, you’re going to look (and feel) out of place. And no one wants to spend the evening feeling like Lorelai on Laundy Day dropping Rory off for her first day at Chilton.
3. Use the time, location, or time of year to help you decide. If you’re heading to a wedding on the beach in Maui, chances are, you’d choose something VERY different than at a swanky warehouse wedding in NYC.
4. Make sure you and your date aren’t too matchy matchy. Should your outfits compliment each other? Of course. But we don’t all need to look like Britney and Justin. #Iconic

5. “Cleavage is not an accessory.” – Rebecca Dolgin (The Knot’s Editor in Cheif) ‘Nough said.

6. And last, but certainly not least, always remember that it’s better to be over dressed than underdressed. Save your flip flops for another time. And NEVER wear jeans. Even if the invite says casual.

Don’t worry… you can rock whatever you show up in. Just channel your inner Elle Woods.

Whatever you choose, I’m sure you’ll be stunning! As long as you love how you look, and you aren’t upstaging the bride, you’ll be good to go. Happy shopping!tumblr_nr1b56h7il1tt25qco1_500

Ugh you guys. I totally was planning on wearing a big snuggly sweater today and making Trev go for a walk and get some PSLs after work. And then I walked outside and it was 93 degrees. Fall… where you at?! I’m waiting for you!

I hope everyone enjoys their weekends! You won’t be hearing from me on Sunday because it’s my birthday! I’ve requested that we lay in bed all day watching my favorite movies and eating my favorite pizza. Trev didn’t protest… too much 🙂

I’ll talk to you Monday!

PS. Here’s a quick snap of Trev and I from my cousins wedding last weekend. I am SO IN LOVE with this dress. It’s super soft, and easy to move in. I can’t say enough good things about it!

On Me- Dress: Charles Henry  // Shoes: Sold out. Similar here // Hair: Luxy  (Yes I’m adding my hair extensions because my braid wouldn’t be nearly as thick without them!) // Purse: Michael Kors (This was not the purse I planned to take. I had a cute little clutch and I completely forgot it. A rule of thumb, the smaller the bag, the better when it comes to wedding attire!) // Bracelet: Kate Spade On Trev- Shirt: Pronto Uomo // Tie: Michael Kors  // Pants: Adidas  // Shoes: Aldo BUT you can get almost the exact same pair for cheaper at DSW 🙂

PPS- I’m so sorry my pictures are coming off a little bit blurry! I’m having the HARDEST time with the new iOS update and getting my pictures onto iPhone. So long story short… they aren’t the full resolution and don’t look like they should.
